Highfield School specialises in teaching pupils who are identified as having severe learning difficulties (SLD). In addition, many of our pupils will have a diagnosis of an autistic spectrum condition. A few pupils have social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside a small number with additional needs of physical disabilities or hearing and visual impairments.
No, Highfield school will consider applications from pupils living outside of Wakefield.
Yes, all pupils will need to have an EHCP. In line with our specialism, the EHCP would normally state SLD as a primary or secondary need.

We would recommend that you discuss this with your current school, with Wakefield Local Authorities Special Educational Needs Assessment and Review Team (SENART) on 01924 302465 or call us to discuss your situation, including the option to arrange a visit to the school.
Because almost all of our pupil’s travel by a minibus or taxi service to school, you will be advised by the transport service if your particular journey is running or not as a result of severe weather. If the weather is particularly poor locally to the school, the school may need to close to all pupils and will advise the transport services, post a notice on the website and will advise the local media and radio stations accordingly.
This website is the best available resource, if you would like to know more then please arrange a visit and tour.
Please phone the main school phone number 01924 264240 and select the absence option from the menu. Please phone in on each day of absence. For further details about absence and illness, please see here.
